Dabbling in Watercolour…the sea

seascape

Had a cafe chaplaincy morning today where we learned a few techniques on achieving a beautiful seascape. Good day to remember what it’s like to be a student…if only for an hour.

Felt slightly strange to imagine an image versus drawing from life or a photo. But quite good to be creative and not worry about the end results.

Introduction to Narrative Book Marking – Workshop examples

Images from a recent workshop I led – Introduction to Narrative Book Making. Challenge was that the individuals who came on the course did not want to draw – so collage was involved instead. Results turned out really well and everyone was pleased.

2016 Design work for Custom House Poole

Have begun to do a series of design work for Custom House in Poole after the success of the menus I did for them last year. The Custom House is wanting to merge their style across the board which is wise. Currently in print are the flyers for their live music evening dining with fireworks on Thursdays this summer. See flyer below.

A visit to the Custom House Poole – Menus in person

JS with CH Menu smallHad a visit to the newly redecorated Custom House Cafe Bar in Poole this month. The atmosphere felt modern yet connected to the heritage of the building. Was a bit of a strange sensation to see the menus that I had worked on so much on a screen in front of me in laminated paper form. The understated menu (that took a long time to get that way) really felt like it reflected the space and belonged there. They did not detract from the atmosphere but seemed to be at home in it. We sampled the food as well…which I can highly recommend!

CH Menus

Created menus for a local historical and hip local cafe bar – The Custom House in Poole – to work aloongside their recent redecoration.

Hope to see them in person soon.

A joy to work on but surprisingly took as long or longer to create these menus as it does to do a stop frame animation.

A good reminder to never underestimate design challenge of working with text.
